Re: [EP-tech] [External] - Re: [External] - Re: Pubrouter a/c details / Fw: pubrouter config / Re: [External] - Re: I'm Retiring

Hi Darren,

We can install the PubRouter plugin for you.
One of the steps is to set the API key in the configuration plugin. You need to provide this API key. You should be able to find this on the Jisc's Publications Router website (https://pubrouter.jisc.ac.uk/) for which you will need to login to first, presumably with an account created collectively for WORC. The following is a link to the section in the installation instructions of the plugin, which should help you find the API key:

If WORC do not already have an account on Jisc's Publications Router website, you will need to create one. I am not sure the process for this, so you will need to ask Jisc if you do not yet have an account. These are the instructions for what WORC needs to do as an institution, if you have not already done so:

There is already an account on https://eprints.worc.ac.uk/cgi/users/home?screen=User::View&userid=4819 with the username Pubrouter. I assume you know the password for this and have probably already configured the Jisc Publications Router for basic interaction with your EPrints repository.

Additionally, can you please review our contacts list and provide me with any changes that need to be made.
This is the current contact list.

Kind Regards,
Ed

Hi Darren,

I would start by looking on the EPrints wiki's manual page:

https://wiki.eprints.org/w/Manual

Linked off there is a sub-page for training videos:

https://wiki.eprints.org/w/Category:Training_Video

There is also a link to a separate page for training materials:

https://www.eprints.org/software/training/

Hope this helps

Hi David and Jusitn -

Thanks very much for the steer here and apologies to Justin for retiring him prematurely(!)

I'll work through the advice. In the meantime, is the any kind of 'Eprints for Dummies' manual I could refer to? I'd like to go right back to step 1 so I get a thorough understanding of how the system works.

Best
Darren

Hi Darren,

I have just been looking back through this email thread and I think what happened was that an email thread related to Roger Fairman (at Worcester) retiring must have continued to be used by Justin and at some point it morphed into looking like Justin was retiring.

I can see for the discussion thread for WORC-66, you said you were going to get back to be last Summer (in August 2021) after you were back from leave.  I think there was discussion about changing the password but I did not want to do this until we were certain this would not break something elsewhere.  I.e. the Jisc Publications Router needs it to deposit items onto your EPrints repository.  I can see that items were deposited by the Jisc Publications Router last night.  If I updated the password, unless you were able to update this in the Jisc Publication Router system as well, it would no longer be able to deposit.  As the password stored on EPrints is encrypted, I cannot tell you what the current password is.

I have just been speaking to Justin (cc-ed) and he reckons that Jisc would have sent you the username and password they would want you to configure for the Publications Router user on eprints.worc.ac.uk.  Therefore, I would email them (see https://www.jisc.ac.uk/publications-router) about this.  They may even be able to point you to a web console where you can update the password.  At which point I could update the password on eprints.worc.ac.uk and straight after you would hopefully be able to update this password on Jisc's web console.

In the meantime I can see that the number of items under the Pubrouter user has increased quite a bit:

|        9 | archive       |
|        6 | buffer        |
|      542 | inbox         |
I think I suggested before that I could write a script move all the items in this user's workarea into the review buffer, so at least editors/admins could review them.  I could make this script run overnight every night to move any new items in this user's workarea to the review buffer.  However, you would need to make sure that anyone reviewing these did not just send them back to the user's workarea, if they did not want to put them live.  Otherwise, they would end up keep being shunted back and forth between the review buffer and the user's workarea.

It may be possible to get the Jisc Publication Router to deposit after adding these new eprint records so they would always appear in the review buffer.  Other third-party applications that use EPrints' APIs normally do this.  Also, I cannot remember a similar issue to yours where items languish in the user's workarea because no one can see them.  Maybe this is because other institutions can regularly login as the Pubrouter user and check for new items.  However, this seems unlikely, as having to remember to periodically login as another user seems like something that would get forgotten about after a while.

Regards

David Newman

Hi David - hope to find you well.

The team here are getting to grips with pubrouter: I don't believe we ever got hold of the password for the Pubrouter account, and I suspect Justin retired before he was able to supply us with that (for earlier correspondence please see below).

Would you be able to supply the password for it?

Thanks and best regards

Darren

We can create one, likely called ‘pubrouter'.  And tell you the password.

Hi Darren,

I’ve raised WORC-66 here to cover the pub router activity.  Do you have a user in mind, or shall we create a suitable one?

Regards,
Justin

Hi Justin - hope all well with you.

I've just had word that a new pubrouter agreement has been signed and sent, so we're all clear to proceed.

You said pub router needs a small config tweak and to use a local user:

If you're ok to proceed with that work, that would be much appreciated.

Thanks and regards
Darren

Hi Darren,

I’ve asked Kelly to forward on anything she deems helpful from a documentation point of view.

For pub router, it needs a small config tweak, and it needs to use a local user (rather than your SSO authenticated normal ones), which we can sort for you.
I believe most, if not all, use the basic rather than RIOXX formatted connection.

Hope that helps.
Regards,
Justin

Hi Justin -

I've just logged into eprints for the first time in a long time, and started re-familiarising myself with the admin and other areas.

Hope you don't mind two (hopefully easy) questions:

  1. Is there some support documentation available which might help me re-orientate myself with eprints?
  2. Phil here has just been having the start of a discussion with JISC about their Publications Router service and this question arose: Is our eprints tenancy configured for pubrouter to feed data into it? (And if so,  is it the basic or RIOXX connection?)

Best regards

Darren

Hi Justin - and thanks for getting in touch.

AFAIK, Adam will continue as the IT liaison: I don't quite know quite how much internal IT input is needed since we moved to a SaaS model (authentication?) but I've cc'ed him in here in case he wanted to input or update.

No doubt we'll be speaking with you more in due course once we start thinking about how we move the service forward.

Best regards in the meantime

Darren
