Re: [EP-tech] Version of Perl to use

Hi Nigel,

I have a number of servers running Enterprise Linux 9 (EL9) that currently install version 5.32.1 when installed from an RPM.  This has worked well for me but I am typically running 3.4.x (mainly 3.4.6) on EL9.

I think you will need to give a bit more information on the error messages you are seeing.  EPrints often needs Perl modules installed using CPAN as the are not available as RPMs (or Deb packages).  There has been some work to try to separate out Perl module and RPM/Deb installation, so that EPrints installation instructions can be a little less platform dependent.  The next major version of EPrints has a bundle file that may help most of the CPAN modules you need:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/eprints/eprints3.5/refs/heads/master/perl_lib/EPrints/Bundle/EPrints.pm

This could then be installed using a script like cpan_modules.pl:

Hi List,

I’m trying to get a repository migrated to a new server.

Able to migrate the repository files and the mysql database.

The repository is using eprints 3.3.15 and the new linux server has Perl 5.34 which I realised is unsupported as version 5.42 has been released.  The old server was running Perl 5.18.

I’ve had numerous attempts and I’ve been unable to have a running version of any repository.  I even tried creating a test instance which also failed.

Any advice/help will be greatly appreciated.

All the best.

Nigel.
