[EP-tech] Re: usage stats

Hi Stephen,

	For all our web applications, we use piwik (http://piwik.org/). It's open source and similar to Google Analytics : it give you full control of what you want to monitor. For eprints, we put the javascript code in  /opt/eprints3/archives/Archipel/cfg/lang/fr/templates/default.xml. Piwik can monitor keywords, number of downloads for files (pdf and others), browser types, users VS unique users, from where,  bounce rate, avg time on pages, etc. Piwik is internationalized and you can set it up with authentication. You can also schedule reports and send to.

Hi Stephen,

In my experience, given that EPrints runs as an Apache module, it's been easiest to use an Apache log analizer. My favorite one is awstats
- you can look at its output at:

  http://stat.iiec.unam.mx/awstats/ru.iiec.unam.mx.html

It requires a login with username/password - I will temporarily open it with login "public" and password "temp" (and will close it tomorrow-ish).

All awstats needs is access to your web server logs; it keeps a historical database, and gives you a wealth of information on the usage patterns of your sites.
