What’s new in 3.4.1?

The EPrints 3.4.1 release cycle not only contains updates to the EPrints core code, but also the Publications flavour along with a number of other components.

What’s new in 3.4.1 Core?

3.4.1 is a maintenance release, and as such contains a number of small and minor changes. These are summarised here – https://wiki.eprints.org/w/EPrints_3.4.1

Impact Flavour

We have produced a new repository flavour with the University of Glasgow, the Impact flavour records details of all important research impact stories, allowing these to be curated and shared amongst university staff. It is installed separately from a publications repository, although it can share an EPrints server. The Impact flavour is available from http://files.eprints.org/2398/ or https://github.com/eprints/impact_lib If you would like to know more, please get in touch.

Annotations Ingredient

We have produced a new ingredient, which allows a repository to associate additional information with a page, or part of a workflow. The information can take the form of an administrative note (viewable only to admins), a publicly readable block of text, or a user authored threaded discussion. An annotation can for example be used to record comments about an abstract without editing the record directly, or to record the provenance information about an ORCiD. The annotations ingredient is in its infancy, but is complete enough to be a handy tool. If you would like to know more then please get in touch, else see https://github.com/eprints/annotations

New Ingredients

As well as the above we have released a couple of handy new ingredients. Ready for use in your repository we have “daterangepicker”, a date or date range picker visual component. This is as an alternative to the traditional text based date selectors in EPrints. And “richtext”, as the name suggests is a rich text multiline formatted text control, giving the editor control over formatting, links and embedded images in an EPrints field context. Both these new components are ready for use and are available from https://github.com/eprints We will be integrating these more tightly in future releases of Core and the flavours.

What’s next?

We are working on the next round of changes for 3.4.2. We will also be updating 3.3 with a few security changes, and will release 3.3.17. Details will appear here as they are agreed – https://wiki.eprints.org/w/EPrints_3.4.2
