Hi Thomas,
I believe I have fix this but I really wished I had not looked at this last thing on a Friday afternoon.  I don't normally maintain tryme.demo.eprints-hosting.org and now I have looked at it, I am glad I don't.
I think the issue was a half backported fix so that EPrints could connect to doi.org over HTTPS rather than HTTP.  I have hacked in the other half of the fix and that seems to have done the trick.
