Re: [EP-tech] Future REF plugin

Hi Lee,

Some initial work has taken place on a REF2029 plugin over at https://github.com/eprintsug/ref2029.

This has taken the form of a EPrints 3.4 ingredient and has largely been driven by our customers' requirements. The plugin focuses on:

It's still very much a work in progress and more will be added to the plugin over the following weeks and months to better enhance reporting and selection processes. Further down the line we'll also be looking at submission system export options (although naturally this will have to wait on guidance from Research England!).

We're also working on an update to the REF CC plugin and hope to get an update to the compliance checking rules in place ahead of the Open Access compliance rule changes in January 2026. We're aware this is quite soon and there's much demand for this and we'll make further announcements as soon as we can.

Many thanks,

Will

Hi Lee,

There is a plan to develop a REF 2029 ingredient/plugin for release later this year, ahead of the changes to REF OA compliance criteria in January 2026.

The current plan is that this will be an upgrade to the existing REF CC plugin which was used to calculate REF OA compliance for the last REF. The first step in the upgrade plan will be to update the compliance criteria to support the new rules, and then this will be followed by support for selecting EPrint records for submission, building benchmarks etc.

As soon as it's ready we'll publish a roadmap for the REF plugin updates and keep you posted with any developments.

Many thanks,

Will

Good Afternoon

Apologies if I’ve missed an announcement, but are we expecting a REF plugin or ingredient

Or is there any advice on what plugins or ingredients that can be used?

Thanks

Lee
