EPrints is an Open Source digital repository platform. Created at the University of Southampton, maintained by the EPrints Community, lead by EPrints Services.
EPrints is used primarily as an Open Access repository for promoting and sharing academic outputs by way of an easily discoverable Web presence. It is also used for storing and sharing Research Data objects, Educational resources, and a number of other bespoke uses. It is also used both as an institution-wide resource for a University, for a specific type of output such as Theses, or as a platform for a specific journal or conference.
EPrints offers a flexible system which allows each installation to be customised to suit the individual deployment. This includes but is not limited to customisations in; the look and feel (branding), the shape of the data stored (schema), the data collection forms (workflows), the presentation of the metadata records (citations, record pages), and in integrations with external systems such as a CRIS or institutional website.
EPrints is a Linux service, backed by a MySQL database and fronted by an Apache Web server, making it lightweight, flexible, and easy to integrate.
EPrints has a healthy community of users and developers who champion its use and guide its future development.
