Actions for Funders to Achieve Open Access

Funding Organisations can endorse and encourage Open Access by mandating open access for all research outputs from funded projects and programmes.

  1. Mandate that the research that is publicly funded must not merely be published but it must be publicly accessible online (whether through self-archiving, open-access journals, or both).
  2. Make it part of grant applications that CVs and bibliographies citing the applicant's prior work should contain links to the online full-text (whether self-archived or in open-access journals, or both).

For further details see the proposal for a UK national policy of open access for all refereed research output for research assessment.
